The route leads through valleys rich with homesteads, history, and many fruit farms with friendly locals who form a memorable part of this stunningly beautiful landscape. Although you can do the four-pass route in just one day by car, you will be forgiven for lingering.
An Interesting part of history, that can be solely accredited for today's Flourishing fruit export market from the Cape, stems from this area. Although rich in fruit growth, like pears, plums apricots, and peaches, most of it went to waste until 1886, when after nearly 200 years of farmers producing wheat, meat, and wine, several boxes of Grapes were successfully transported to London, using wax to seal the stems. The profit was too much to be overlooked by the Capetonian farmers as they gladly accepted the 15 shillings a pound whereas they would only get a pound to the penny at home. Eureka, An Industry was born.
